About
Harshitha Holmes, Esq.
I started Baker Street Legal Advocacy because the people who need an advocate most are so often the ones told they cannot have one. My practice serves families navigating special education disputes and individuals facing civil rights violations in the District of Columbia. Every matter starts with a free one-hour consultation, because you should never have to pay to find out whether someone can help you.
This work is personal for me. I am a neurodivergent attorney, the mother of a young autistic son, and the wife of a Type 1 diabetic who is also neurodivergent. I have lived on both sides of the table. At work, I challenge those who prevent the system from working for the people who rely on them. At home, I am the family member waiting to find out whether those systems will show up for the people I love.
Before law school, I spent years as a technology consultant. That career taught me how complicated systems fail the people they are supposed to serve, and how to find the exact point where they break. That skill turns out to be most of special education law. The system is supposed to work for your child. Often it does not until someone makes it.
I earned my J.D. from The George Washington University Law School and my B.S. from Stanford University. I am a member of the District of Columbia Bar. When a school district has more lawyers than your family has options, you deserve someone who will read every page of the record and refuse to be outlasted.
Where I practice
I am licensed in the District of Columbia. For matters in Maryland, I work with local co-counsel when available. If your child's school is across the state line, reach out and I will tell you whether I can help.
Start with a free one-hour consultation.
You will never be charged for asking whether I can help. Call, email, or use the contact form. We will talk about your situation and go from there.
